PlayWrite Click here to see our most recent PlayWrite performance Theatre-in-the-Making’s PlayWrite program is the place for the voices of young actors and playwrights to express themselves and be heard. For seven seasons, PlayWrite’s student ensemble has written, workshopped, and performed their own original material addressing themes important to them on stages around Albuquerque.
PlayWrite 2008 used the works of William Shakespeare as its point of departure. But you don’t need to know Shakespeare and his plays to be part of PlayWrite. We believe Shakespeare is every bit as relevant today as he was 400 years ago. For 18 years, we have specialized in demystifying the Bard, helping students to realize his plays are filled with people and problems that are universal and timeless, and to understand his poetic language is accessible and meaningful. Shakespeare’s plays offer a treasure trove of characters and ideas to inspire your own writing and acting, linking your voices with those of his memorable characters: lovers like Romeo and Juliet, tragic heroes like Hamlet, resourceful heroines like Rosalind, Portia and Viola, sinister villains like Iago and Richard III, and hilarious clowns like Falstaff and Touchstone. Members of PlayWrite 2008 had the opportunity to develop a fuller understanding of Shakespeare’s genius and to find their own genius in original writing and acting from which PlayWrite’s final production was created.
PlayWrite will be held again in January 2009. To Register, download and print the application form. Mail the completed form and application fee to the address above. |
